Key Fob Replacement for the Seat Ibiza
The refreshed fifth-generation Ibiza is an option in the competitive supermini segment. It competes against the Renault Clio and Peugeot 208 as well as the Ford Fiesta.
With a thumb nail, or a small screwdriver that has a flat head (A) lift upwards the key fob compartment cover (B). Replace the CR2025 batteries, making sure it is installed in the proper direction.
Dead Coin Battery
A dead coin battery is the most common cause of a key fob that isn't locking or unlocking your vehicle. When it is dead, you will notice an increase in range or no power. It is easy to replace it with a new (CR2025) one from your local supermarket. It is important to be aware that using the wrong or unsuitable batteries could cause damage to your key fob. Make sure that the battery you replace has the same size and voltage and has the same specification.
If your fob was exposed to pure water, such as rainwater or soapy water from the tap it is possible that corrosion has damaged the chip's electronic components. You can clean the chip using isopropyl or electronic cleaners to see if that helps, but it's likely the chip is damaged.
The most efficient solution is to buy a new key fob. They are available from most major car dealers and are fitted by an experienced mechanic. You can also buy them online, like on eBay. The best thing to do is to work on a level surface with excellent lighting. It makes it easier to work with small parts. This can also help to avoid putting anything back into the wrong place. Always keep your key fob in a location that is secure and safe.
Water Damage
It's possible to think that your fob is damaged if you drop it into a pool or accidentally wash it. However, there's still a chance. When the circuit board on the fob is exposed to water, it develops conductor that shorts the components. It also accelerates the process of rust and corrosion.
Fortunately, this is easy to fix. Simply locate something absorbent and put it inside the fob - paper towl or tissue work well. Then apply the cotton swab, dipped in isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the circuit board and other components to remove any residues of acid from batteries and contamination. Let the fob dry out for some time in a dry, warm environment.
Once the fob is dried out and the battery is replaced with a new one (of the same size and the same polarity ('+' directed upwards). The fob may be difficult to open to get to the battery, but if you keep a flat-head screwdriver in your toolbox, it should be easy to insert. After the fob is reassembled it should function as usual. If it fails it may be necessary to re-program it or replace the module.
Radio Interference
When a key fob functioning properly, it sends the radio frequency signal which is picked up by the receiver module inside your car. If the signal is damaged in any way the key fob will not function properly. This could be caused by factors like weather conditions, objects, or other transmitters operating on the same frequency band close to your car.
This can cause your key fob not to be able to trigger the vehicle's functions like the ignition switch or security system. In this scenario it's best to replace the battery in your key fob.
A few aftermarket LED lighting fixtures that uses the same frequency as the remote key fob may interfere with the signal and block it from reaching the receiver modules. G28 needs to be turned off or switched to a different frequency to avoid interference.
If you've just replaced the battery in your key fob, and the issue persists, it is likely that the key fob's antenna is damaged or not functioning properly. This is important since the antenna is responsible for transmitting signals from the key fob to the receiver module. An OBDII scan can aid in diagnosing the issue by revealing what's wrong with your system. The scanner will ask you for details about your vehicle including the model, make and engine type as well as the VIN number.

Faulty Receiver Module
The key fob has a receiver module which transmits signals to lock and unlock the key fob. If this module is damaged and the on-board electronics will cease to function. If this is the case it is possible to reprogramme the module using an OBDII scanner or replacing the key fob may help.
There are a few possible causes such as a dead coin battery, water damage, or signal interference. You can reset the on-board computer by disconnecting the 12 volt batteries for 15 minutes. This will remove any remaining electricity that could be causing problems. Begin by removing the cable from the negative terminal first, then the positive terminal. After 15 minutes, connect the battery in reverse order first: positive, then negative second.
Dirt and water can affect the internal chip inside the key fob. If your key fob stopped functioning after getting wet, wipe it with isopropyl or electronics cleaner. Then, you can reinstall the battery. If the key stopped working after exposure to soapy or salted water, it is likely that the chip is damaged and needs to be replaced.
Another possibility is a damaged antenna module fuse, which transmits the lock / unlock signal to the vehicle. Depending on your model, the fuse is located in a variety of locations like the engine bay, to the left of the dashboard, under the rear seat, or trunk.
